  • What are the rules for installing a sign ?

Installing traffic signs properly is necessary to secure roads and prevent accidents.

The signs must be installed following regulations. These regulations take into account several factors such as the permitted driving speed to allow drivers enough time to view the information, as well as the visibility of the signs as they must be perceptible even during adverse weather conditions. Another aspect taken into account is traffic flow to regulate road traffic.

    The rules of installation

    traffic signs

    In urban areas

In urban areas, the traffic sign must be installed at a height of 0.70 meters from the road surface and must leave a clearance of 1.4 meters for traffic circulation and pedestrian safety. The mounting height under the sign should be 2.30 meters to ensure visibility for drivers.

    In rural areas

In rural areas, the traffic sign must also be installed at a height of 0.70 meters from the road surface, but the pole must be at a height of 2 meters. The mounting height under the sign should be 1 meter.

    Median barrier

On a median barrier, the mounting height under the sign should be 1 meter.

    Danger signs

The signs must be installed at appropriate distances from bends and hazardous areas, to allow drivers sufficient time to adjust their speed.

For this reason, danger signs are installed as advance warning signs. In urban areas, they are placed at a distance ranging from 0 to 50 meters, while outside urban areas, they are placed at a distance ranging from 100 to 200 meters. However, it is recommended to place them at a distance of 50 meters in urban areas and 150 meters on roads and highways.

    Standards and Regulations

It is mandatory to comply with standards and regulations when installing traffic signs. The standards and rules must be adhered to for both the installation and the characteristics of the signs, such as size, color, symbol…

    Road Markings

To enhance the presence and significance of a traffic sign, it is possible to use road markings, which may accompany the sign.

Generally, road markings are present at intersections or in areas of dense traffic flow. These markings are regulated, meaning that road traffic regulations must be followed when implementing them.
